The government has announced a one-week lockdown across the country from April 5 as coronavirus (Covid-19) infections continue to rise.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement on Saturday (April 3rd).
This means that for the first time from April 5 (Monday) to April 12, the whole country will be under lockdown.
However, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said the factories would remain open on shifting duty.
The number of patients identified daily in the second wave of corona infection in the country has reached new heights. On Friday (April 2), a record 6,630 people were identified in the country as Corona. Besides, the health department confirmed the news of 50 deaths on the same day. So far 6 lakh 24 thousand 594 people have been infected with this deadly virus. The death toll stood at 9,155.
After the first corona patient was identified in the country on March 6 last year, public life was almost paralyzed in a two-month 'lockdown'. Then, as the infection subsides, so do the restrictions. In mid-February this year, the country's daily detection rate fell below three percent. But by the end of February the infection began to grow at a rapid pace again. As a result, the hospitals in Dhaka are struggling as the number of patients is increasing every day.
Meanwhile, the government has identified 31 districts as 'high risk'. In addition, public transport has started with half the capacity of passengers. It has been asked to close all educational institutions and run all government and non-government offices / institutions / factories with half manpower except the institutions engaged in emergency services. And, all the tourist centers in the three hill districts, Chittagong, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar and Kuakata have been declared closed. Apart from the United Kingdom, passengers from all over Europe and 12 other countries have been banned from entering Bangladesh. In addition, the National Technical Advisory Committee on Kovid-19 has recommended immediate closure of all social events, entertainment centers, book fairs and other fairs.
